Sioux Center - Christ the King

SIOUX CENTER - Christ the King Catholic Faith Community was formed in the 1990s in response to the growing Catholic population of Sioux Center. The faithful were granted permission to celebrate Mass and are served by the pastor at St. Mary, Rock Valley. In the beginning, Masses were held in Hope Lutheran Church, Sioux Center but due to the rapid growth of the Catholic population in Sioux Center Masses were moved to the basement of the local Public Library.

Religious education classes evolved from being held in parishioners homes to also meeting in the Public Library facility.

After diligent prayer and hard work the Catholic families in Sioux Center were encouraged by the dedication of their new church on Nov. 18, 2001. An historic celebration took place with Daniel N. DiNardo, Bishop of the Diocese of Sioux City presiding over the Dedication Mass and Consecration of the Altar.

Christ the King community currently serves an estimated 150 families including a large number of Spanish speaking Catholics. Mass is offered each weekend in English and on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month in Spanish. The priests that have served this faith community are Father Don Smith, Father Dale George and now Father Gene Murray.

Father LeRoy Seuntjens of Hawarden celebrates Spanish Masses for the community.
