Record year for Friends of St. Mary’s Ball

REMSEN - The theme for the 2012 Friends of St. Mary’s Ball was A Nightly Spring Affair.

It was the 21st Annual Ball with chair couple, Mary and Monte Konopasek, aided by co chairs, Melany and John Roling. The couples presented a $62,300 check for the 2012 ball.

The speaker this year was Father Loyd Fiedler, SVD. Father Fiedler has spent his entire priesthood in missionary work of pastoral care and initiating schools in the Philippines on the Island of Mindoro. He was home on leave to spend Holy Week and Easter in Remsen with his family, and be able to attend and speak at the Ball. He had delayed his vacation one year to be in Remsen to attend the 50th reunion of the St. Mary’s Class of 1962, which will be this summer. Father Fiedler has been a priest for almost 42 years.

This year the ball included three auction items: a 21st Annual Friends of St. Mary’s Ball goblet signed by Bishop Walker Nickless, a St. Mary’s School Family Quilt and the naming rights to the RSM gymnasium for one year. The quilt featured a square for each grade from preschool through 12th grade, and a faculty/staff square. The quilt was signed by all the students, faculty and staff.
