Bishop Nickless announces new assignments
Bishop Walker Nickless, bishop of the Diocese of Sioux City recently announced the following retirements, reappointments and new appointments:
Effective June 1:
Father Patrick R. Walsh, from President of Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools in Sioux City, to retirement.
This native of Vail attended Loras College and Mount St. Bernard Seminary, both in Dubuque. He earned a master’s degree from Aquinas Institute of Theology in Dubuque, a master’s in education from Creighton University and a master’s in education leadership from University of Dayton, Ohio.
He was ordained to the priesthood on May 24, 1969, at Cathedral of the Epiphany.
He has also served at Corpus Christi Parish, Fort Dodge; St. Edmond High School, Fort Dodge; St. Lawrence Parish, Carroll; Kuemper Catholic High School, Carroll; and St. Joseph Parish, Duncombe while attending Vincent.
Effective July 2:
Father Joseph A. Dillinger, pastor of St. Bernard Parish in Breda, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Mt. Carmel and St. John Parish in Arcadia, will serve as parochial vicar of Holy Trinity Parish in Webster County, with residence in Fort Dodge.
A native of Sioux City, he attended St. Louis University in St. Louis, Mo., and St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, Minn.
He was ordained on July 6, 1996, at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City.
He has also served at Blessed Sacrament Parish, Sioux City; St. Lawrence Parish, Carroll; Holy Family Parish, Lidderdale; St. Elizabeth Seton Parish, Glidden and St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Maple River.

Father Richard S. Ries, pastor of St. Thomas Parish in Manson, St. Mary Parish in Pomeroy and St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Rockwell City, will retire.
This native of Pocahontas was ordained on June 1, 1963, at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City. He attended Loras College and Mount St. Bernard Seminary, both in Dubuque.
Father Ries has also served at Sts. Father William A. McCarthy has been reappointed for a second six-year term as pastor of St. Mary Parish in Remsen and St. Catherine Parish in Oyens.
A native of Hawarden, he is a graduate of South Dakota State University, attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City and graduated from St. Meinrad School of Theology. He was ordained on May 31, 2003, at Cathedral of the Epiphany.
Father McCarthy has also served at St. Joseph Parish, Struble; as a member of the Le Mars Plymouth County Cluster Team Ministry and the Webster County Team Ministry in Fort Dodge.

This native of Duncombe graduated from Immaculate Conception College in Conception, Mo. and St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 28, 1977, at St. Joseph Church in Duncombe.

Father Armand J. Bertrand, V.F., pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Cherokee, Holy Name Parish in Marcus and Vicar Forane of the Central Deanery, to pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Sioux City.
A native of Sioux City, he attended Morningside College, earned a master’s in music at the University of South Dakota, Vermillion and completed seminary studies Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners, Wis.
He was ordained to the priesthood on July 22, 1989, at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City.
Father Bertrand has also served at Blessed Sacrament Parish, Sioux City; Bishop Heelan High School, Sioux City; St. Mary Parish and School, Storm Lake; Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Fonda; St. Columbkille, Varina; Visitation, Maryhill and St. John the Baptist, Quimby. He also had served as the co-director of the permanent diaconate.
Father Brian J. Danner, pastor of St. Mary Parish in Mapleton and St. Mary Parish in Oto, has been named pastor of St. Thomas Parish in Manson, St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Rockwell City and St. Mary Parish in Pomeroy, with chaplaincy at the North Central Correctional Institute in Rockwell City, and with residence in Manson.
This native of Dedham was educated at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City and Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis, Mo. He was ordained on June 3, 1995, at Cathedral in Sioux City.
Father Danner as served at St. Mary Parish, Storm Lake; Corpus Christi Parish, Fort Dodge; Immaculate Conception, Sioux City; Nativity, Sioux City; St. Malachy, Madrid; St. John, Ogden and St. Joseph, Milford.
Father Paul F. Eisele, pastor of St. Mary Parish in Alton and St. Anthony Parish in Hospers, will serve as pastor of Assumption Parish in Merrill, St. Joseph Parish in Ellendale and St. Joseph Parish in Struble, with residence in Le Mars and office in Merrill.
This native of Whittemore attended Loras College and Mount St. Bernard Seminary, both in Dubuque. He also earned a master’s in education from Creighton University in Omaha and a master’s from St. Joseph College, Rensselaer, Ind. He was ordained on June 1, 1968, at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City.
He has served at Bishop Heelan High School, Sioux City; St. Mary Parish, Remsen; St. Mary High School, Remsen; St. John the Baptist Parish, Quimby; St. Joseph Parish, Kossuth County while attending Livermore; Bishop Garrigan High School, Algona and St. Cecelia, Algona.
Father Dan M. Greving, pastor of Assumption Parish in Merrill, St. Joseph Parish in Ellendale and St. Joseph Parish in Struble, has been named pastor of St. Mary Parish in Danbury, St. Mary Parish in Mapleton, St. Joseph Parish in Anthon and St. Mary Parish in Oto, with residence in Mapleton and office in Danbury.
A native of Carroll, he was educated at the Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio and St. Joseph Seminary in Dunwoodie, N.Y. He was ordained on June 7, 1997, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll.
In addition to serving in the Le Mars area, he has served at Immaculate Conception in Sioux City and St. Joseph Parish in Wesley while attending St. Benedict Parish in Kossuth County and Livermore. He also served at St. Joseph Parish in Neptune.
Father Daniel C. Guenther, pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Sioux City, to serve as pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Cherokee and Holy Name Parish in Marcus, with residence in Cherokee.
A graduate of Loras College, Dubuque and St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, Father Guenther is a native of Sioux City. He was ordained on May 29, 1982, at Cathedral of the Epiphany.
Father Guenther has served at Kuemper High School and St. Lawrence Parish, Carroll; Bishop Heelan High School, Sioux City; St. Paul Parish, Scranton; St. Joseph Parish, Jefferson; St. Brigid Parish, Grand Junction; Holy Family Parish, Emmetsburg; Sacred Heart Parish, Ruthven while attending in Ayrshire and as the diocesan vocations director.
Father David A. Hemann, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Ida Grove, St. Martin Parish in Odebolt and Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Holstein, will serve as pastor of St. Michael Parish in Sioux City.
A native of Fort Dodge, Father Hemann was educated at Loras College in Dubuque as well as North American College and Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He was ordained on July 20, 1985, at Corpus Christi Church in Fort Dodge.
Father Hemann has served at Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll, St. Mary Church and School, Storm Lake; Sacred Heart Parish, Boone; Blessed Sacrament Parish, Sioux City; St. Anthony Parish, Hospers; Spalding High School, Granville; St. Cecilia Parish, Sanborn while attending Hartley and served for a year in music ministry, offering parish missions.
Father Terry A. Roder, pastor of St. Mary Parish in Danbury and St. Joseph Parish in Anthon, will serve as pastor of St. Mary Parish in Alton, St. Anthony Parish in Hospers, St. Joseph Parish in Granville, and president of Spalding Catholic Schools, with residence in Alton and office in Granville.
This Remsen native attended Loras College, Dubuque and Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis, Mo. He earned a master’s in education degree at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.
Father Roder was ordained to the priesthood on May 27, 1988, at St. Mary Church in Remsen.

This native of Mount Carmel, attended St. John University in Collegeville, Minn.; Loras College, Dubuque; Immaculate Conception Seminary, Conception, Mo. and St. Paul Seminary, St. Paul, Minn. He also holds a master’s in education from Creighton University. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 25, 1974, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Mt. Carmel.

Father Sunny Dominic, parochial vicar of Holy Trinity Parish in Webster County, has been named administrator of St. John the Baptist Parish in Bancroft, Sacred Heart Parish in Ledyard and St. Mary Parish in Armstrong, with residence in Bancroft.
This native of India was educated at Papal Athenaeum in Pune, India and Holy Spirit Fathers in Hyderabad, India. He was ordained on Dec. 4, 1994, at St. Sebastian Church in Manjamattom, India.
He served as the manager of the Opus Press in Hyderabad, India; rector of the Holy Spirit Fathers' Philosophy Study House in Janapet, Elura, India and has also served as parochial vicar at Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll and as chaplain at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll.
