Six priests to celebrate jubilees

Six priests of the Diocese of Sioux City will celebrate jubilee anniversaries this year. They will be honored at 4 p.m. Mass on April 14 at St. Rose of Lima Church in Denison.

Father Daniel Lynch is celebrating his 60th anniversary. Fathers Charles Bormann, William Devine and Peter Fransco are celebrating their 50th anniversary. Father Paul Kelly is celebrating his 25th anniversary.

FATHER LYNCH, the son of Daniel and Ellen (Hughes) Lynch, was born March 11, 1924, in Larchwood. He attended St. Mary's School in Larchwood, Trinity College in Sioux City and St. Paul Seminary, St. Paul, Minn. He earned a master's degree at the Catholic University of America, Midwest extension.

Bishop Joseph M. Mueller ordained him on June 6, 1948, at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City.

Father Lynch served at Our Lady of Good Counsel, Fonda; St. Michael Church, Whittemore; Bishop Heelan High School, Sioux City; St. Monica's Home, Sioux City; St. Joseph Church, Barnum; St. Edmond High School, Fort Dodge; Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Ashton; St. Mary Church, Storm Lake and St. Mary Church, Sac City. He retired on July 14, 1994.

FATHER BORMANN, the son of Charles and Anna (Hartmann) Bormann, was born on July 22, 1933, in Whittemore. He attended St. Michael Grade School and Presentation Academy in Whittemore, Loras College, Dubuque and Mount St. Bernard Seminary, Dubuque. He earned a master's degree in education at Creighton University, Omaha.

He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Mueller on May 31, 1958 at the Cathedral of the Epiphany.

Father Bormann served at St. Mary Church and St. Mary High School, Remsen; Sacred Heart Parish and Pocahontas Catholic Schools, Pocahontas; Sacred Heart Church, Larchwood; St. Mary's High School, Alvord; Gehlen Catholic School, Le Mars; St. Columbkille Church, Varina; Our Lady of Good Counsel, Fonda; Assumption and St. Thomas Parishes, Emmetsburg and Emmetsburg Catholic School, Emmetsburg. In the early 1980s he was chaplain at Arizona State Hospital and served in Catholic ministry to prisons, Phoenix, Ariz. He was incardinated into the Diocese of Phoenix in 1987 and is now retired.

FATHER WILLIAM DEVINE, the son of William and Hilda (Gales) Devine, was born on Sept. 25, 1932, in Algona. He was educated at St. Joseph School at St. Joe (Bode), St. Ambrose in Davenport, Mount St. Bernard's, and St. Benedict's Abbey at Benet Lake, Wisc.

Bishop Mueller ordained him on May 31, 1958, at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City.

Father Devine served at Bishop Heelan High School, Sioux City; St. Joseph Hospital, Sioux City; St. Joseph Church, Le Mars; Sts. Peter and Paul Church, West Bend; Sacred Heart Church, Fort Dodge; chaplain at Marian Home, Fort Dodge and the Rockwell City reformatory; St. Joseph Church, Milford; St. Joseph Church, Sioux Rapids; St. Rose of Lima Church, Denison; St. Mary Church, Dow City and (attending) Buck Grove; Christ the King, Dayton; Immaculate Conception, Lehigh; Sacred Heart Church, Ruthven; Immaculate Conception Church, Moville; St. Joseph Church, Schaller; St. Joseph Church, Duncombe. He also served as the diocesan historian before serving in Norfolk, Neb. as the chaplain at St. Joseph's Nursing Home. He retired on July 15, 1997.

FATHER PETER FRANSCO, the son of Dr. Peter and Mary (Conlan) Fransco, was born on Jan. 3, 1929 in Tyler, Minn. He was educated at Ruthven Public Schools, Trinity High School, Sioux City; Creighton University, Omaha; St. John's University, Collegeville, Minn. and St. Bernard Seminary, Dubuque.

He was ordained by Bishop Mueller on May 31, 1958, at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City.

Father Fransco served at Blessed Sacrament, Sioux City; St. Lawrence Church, Carroll; Garrigan High School, Algona; St. Mary Church, Dow City and (attending) Buck Grove; St. Brigid Church Grand Junction and (attending) Paton; Sacred Heart, Laurens; St. Mary's, Willey; St. Mary's, Pomeroy; St. Joseph's, Palmer and St. Mary Parish, Mallard. He retired on July 13, 1999.

FATHER LLOYD WHITE, the son of Edward and Mary (Lawler) White, was born on April 27, 1924, in Westside. He attended St. Ann's High School in Vail, Trinity College in Sioux City, Creighton University in Omaha, Maryknoll Seminary in Ossining, N.Y. and Mount St. Bernard Seminary in Dubuque.

Bishop Mueller ordained him on May 31, 1958, at Cathedral of the Epiphany.

Father White served at St. James Church, Le Mars; St. Joseph Church, Sioux City; Bishop Heelan High School, Sioux City; chaplain at Carmelite Monastery, Sioux City; St. Joseph Church, Neptune; Gehlen Catholic, Le Mars; Sacred Heart Church, Sutherland; St. Anthony Church, Primghar; St. Rose of Lima Church, Denison; St. Joseph Church, Schaller and Sacred Heart, Manilla. He retired on July 14, 1994.

FATHER PAUL KELLY, the son of Louis and Catherine Kelly, he was born on Jan. 24, 1955, and raised in Sioux Rapids. He graduated from Sioux Rapids Community School and attended Iowa State University in Ames and St Paul Seminary, St. Paul, Minn.

Bishop Frank H. Greteman ordained him on May 28, 1983, at St. Joseph's in Sioux Rapids.

Father Kelly, who is presently the pastor at St. Rose of Lima Church in Denison, has served at Immaculate Conception Church, Sioux City; Corpus Christi Church, Fort Dodge; Immaculate Conception Church, Graettinger; Assumption Parish, Emmetsburg; St. Augustine Church, Halbur; Holy Angels, Roselle; Assumption Church, Coon Rapids; St. Elizabeth Seton, Glidden and Cathedral of the Epiphany, Sioux City.
