Jan. 10, 2008

Bishop R. Walker Nickless of the Diocese of Sioux City recently announced that Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo plans to visit the Diocese of Sioux City on March 24.

"We are so excited that Cardinal DiNardo is coming back to the Diocese of Sioux City. We are looking forward to it liturgically as well as socially," said Bishop Nickless.

The new cardinal will celebrate a private Mass at the Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City on March 24. The Mass will be invitation-only, however, a public reception will be held at the Marina Inn that day. More details of the visit by the new cardinal will be announced in the future.

Cardinal DiNardo, who presently serves as the shepherd of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston in Texas, was appointed coadjutor bishop of the Diocese of Sioux City on Aug. 19, 1997. He became the sixth ordinary of the diocese on Nov. 28, 1998 and served here until his appointment to Texas on Jan. 16, 2004.

He was one of 23 elevated to cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI during a consistory held at St. Peter's Basilica on Nov. 24 in Rome.
