New marketing and development coordinator for Diocese of Sioux City

By Jamie McClure, Globe Intern
July 26, 2006

The Diocese of Sioux City welcomes Angie Heller as the marketing and development coordinator within the Stewardship and Development Department. Heller recently started this job on July 9.

She will be using her talents to help the diocese with the DAA (Diocesan Annual Appeal) and the Monsignor Lafferty Tuition Foundation Program, along with other projects that come her way. She is recently learning the software and getting printouts ready to send to the priests and parishes informing them about the 2007 DAA.

"We want to help everyone get fired up about it and understand what the DAA is," said Heller. "So, we will be setting up deanery meetings that will do just that."

Heller graduated from Iowa State University in 1990 with a B.A. degree in Speech Communications and an emphasis in Tele-communicative Arts. She is a lifelong resident of Sioux City and a graduate of Bishop Heelan High School.

"I have a passion for the Catholic schools, and I've been a parishioner in Sioux City for a long time," said Heller. "I believe in it, and this job was a natural fit."

Angie was a stay at home mom for the last few years with three children who are currently attending Sacred Heart. Heller and her husband have been active volunteers at the Sacred Heart School and also the parish. They spend time with the church choir, Men's and Women's Fellowship/Bible studies, Engaged Encounter Sponsor Couple, Marriage Sponsor Couple, parish finance committee and volunteer coach. Now they both are involved in the long-range planning committees for the Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools and recently, Angie and her husband chaired the Bishop Heelan Auction, raising $685,000.

"I've been on the Bishop's Dinner Committee and the Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools Auction throughout the years as a committee member," said Heller. "I will learn a lot here, but I can hopefully bring a lot as well."

According to Heller, marketing is nothing new, but development will take a little time to learn because she has never worked on the development side of her earlier employments.

Heller's previous work includes Gateway Computers where she worked in the marketing, advertising and human resources departments. She also worked as a video producer, meeting with internal clients, writing scripts, creating production timelines and she also working on a weekly video to communicate with employees worldwide. The weekly video was a 'gateway' to Heller communicating globally to give quick synapses of what was happening in all of the Gateway sites.

"Even though we had a job description, it was a very open-ended job," said Heller. "We had to do whatever it took to get the job done and I do feel that as long as you have the right attitude, you can help with the company goals. I plan to do that here as well."

"I hope to help the bishop with any projects that he wants," said Heller. "With my faith, I have learned to be more patient with myself and other people, and by not expecting a lot of change, I can just help out wherever I can and I hope to bring my excitement and exuberance to this position."
