Hurni to move to a new ministry with HospiceApril 12, 2007Bev Hurni, director of adult and family ministries for the Diocese of Sioux City, is leaving her position with the diocese to try her hand at a different form of ministry as a chaplain for Hospice. She began her employment with the diocese in July of 1999 as coordinator of family programs and prior to that had served as parish minister for 11 years at Immaculate Conception Parish in Cherokee. In her years in the Office of Adult and Family Ministries, Hurni has worked with marriage preparation and marriage enrichment, adult formation including Church Ministries courses, various Diocesan workshops and conferences, disabilitity ministry, BeFriender ministry, Intergenerational ministry, grief support particularly through Beginning Experience. Collaborated with Pastoral Ministers, the Coalition for Ministry with Persons Having Disabilities and the Adult and Family Ministries Advisory Board, along with other offfices at the chancery. Special events included the ordination of Bishop Nickless and several Ministries Conferences. "It has been a privilege to serve in parish and diocesan ministry. I have especially enjoyed teaching the Introduction to Ministry course in the Church Ministries program and finding new avenues for adult faith formation as we have with our Lenten faith sharing resource and intergenerational ministry. I became a Catholic 34 years ago and little did I know then where this journey would take me," said Hurni. Many relationships come to mind for Hurni as she reflects on the years. "There were many opportunities to meet and serve with many wonderful, faith-filled people throughout the diocese and my heart is filled with gratitude for the gift that each of those persons has been for me. I'm also grateful for each pastor and supervisor that has mentored me," she said. Because of her experiences at the dioceses she looks forward to new experiences and new relationships as a chaplain for Hospice of Siouxland. |
