The annual Spring Salad Luncheon and Card Party to raise money for the Carmelite Nuns in Sioux City will be held April 10 at Nativity Parish in Sioux City. The Carmel Board plans the event.

The luncheon will begin at noon. There will be different salads for people to choose from including fruity chicken salad, taco salad, seafood salad and corned beef salad.

Following lunch those interested in staying may play a variety of card games. There are tallies put on each table to keep score.

Throughout the afternoon there will be drawings for gifts and prizes donated by the Carmel Board. There will also be drawings for the table centerpieces.

"This is a fundraiser for the Carmelite Nuns," said Mary Pierce, a Carmel Board member. "It isn't the grocery fund. It goes directly to them for paying their bills and whatever they need. It is a good fundraiser, so we can help them with their needs."

Carmel Board members from St. Joseph Parish in Sioux City including Pierce, Barb Reinert, Brenda Vor, Jo Ann Breyfogle, Louann Bertrand and Sandra Bokemper are planning the event.

Reinert, who has been on the Carmel Board for about 10 years, commented that it is important to support the Carmelites because "of all they do for us. All the praying they do for everyone around. You talk to them and you go to leave and they ask you to pray for them. It is such a terrific service."

The Carmel Board has been providing this event for over 10 years to help support the Carmelites, noted Pierce.

"They do so much for us," said Pierce. "They do all their praying for everyone. They have Carmelite cards that people can send in for the nuns to pray for people that have died, anniversaries or people that are sick. They are special people that pray for us and anyone can call at any given time for them to pray."

Anyone is encouraged to attend. Tickets will be available at the door or by calling one of the coordinators.Cost of tickets is $6.

People are also able to request carryout meals if they are not able to stay for the lunch. Carryouts are to be ordered in advance.

For more information, to reserve a ticket or to order a carryout meal, contact Mary Pierce at (712) 255-9723 or Sandra Bokemper at (712) 255-1959.
