How do Catholic Schools help you develop strong moral character?

January 26, 2006

"Catholic schools teach us about God. We learn about the good works of Jesus. He influences us to ge good. We know God is with us. He lives in all of us. So we just think WWJD?"

Adam, Katelyn, Philip - 3rd graders - Kuemper Catholic School, Carroll

"The teachers teach us the difference between sin and good actions. They make us behave that way, too. They teach you to be a good person and to not get into fights and arguments."

Rachael Getting, 4th grader, Sacred Heart School, Spencer

"They teach us to try our hardest. They want us to be responsible for our actions. They teach us to be strong in our beliefs and wise in our actions."

Samantha Halbur and Hayley Seuntjens, 4th graders, Danbury Catholic

"Catholic Schools help me develop a strong moral character because I am able to attend weekly mass with my classmates and be closer to God. I feel that by being closer to God, I am a better person and friend. I try my hardest to use the knowledge that I have learned in a Catholic school to be the best person I can be and do what is right."

Joseph Begnoche, 6th grader, Gehlen Catholic School, Le Mars

"Seton Grade School helps me to become a trustworthy student. I became this way through student Masses, Religion class and Growing in Love. I learned to be more responsible because of the good discipline here. I also became a loyal friend through our Growing in Love classes."

Sam Evers, 6th grader, Seton Grade School, Algona

"My catholic school makes me not only a stronger catholic, but it also makes me a stronger student. My catholic school helps me learn the golden rule to live by. When I am grown, and on my own, I will be able to see what I have learned at SS. Peter & Paul, to be a good Catholic and to treat people with respect, and know that God is walking with me down the path of life. "

Haley Banwart, 6th Grader, SS. Peter & Paul Catholic School, West Bend

"The Catholic schools help me develop my moral character in many ways. It teaches me discipline and acceptance of others. I learn to respect people in higher authority. It gives me a chance to learn in a religious atmosphere where teachers really care about the decisions students make. I feel very fortunate to be able to attend a Catholic school."

Mary Jo Twiford, 8th grader, Mater Dei School-Nativity Center

"Along with my class work, I am also involved in athletics, chorus and service projects. My teachers and coaches are great role models and encourage me to do my best. We are taught to be compassionate and respectful of others in a Christian way. Catholic schools help prepare you for life."

John Engler, 9th grader, St. Edmond High School, Fort Dodge

"The Catholic School System is all I've ever known, and sometimes I forget what a difference the past 12 years have made on my character. Over the past few years, however, I have come into contact with students outside of the Catholic system, and although most people I know are good people, many lack regard for others' feelings and the general awareness of consequences. I am very grateful to have had wonderful role models and teachers be a part of my childhood. I am also thankful for learning about love in theology classes for as long as I can remember. I truly believe that Catholic education has affected who I am today in a positive way."

Emma Petrie-Smith, junior, Bishop Heelan High School, Sioux City

"Each and every day, students in Catholic schools are educated about their religion. They are taught to believe and live out their faith in God, but the students must discover their own character and how they can show the importance of their faith, to others. Having strong morals and values behind students attending Catholic schools will help them to make sound Christian decision."
