Our Lady of Guadalupe celebrations

Schedule for celebrations of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the Diocese of Sioux City are as follows:

Cathedral of the Epiphany, Sioux City - A nine day novena will begin Dec. 3 with a rosary after the 7 p.m. Mass. The rosary will be in the gym at 6 p.m. on Dec. 4. Dec. 5 through 9 there will be a Mass followed by a rosary in room 204 at 6 p.m. The rosary will follow the 7 p.m. Mass on Dec. 10. On Dec. 11, Mananitas will begin at 5 a.m. followed by Mass at 6 a.m. and a play at 7 a.m. Another Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. and a play at noon. A reception will follow each Mass. On Dec. 12, there will be a 6:30 a.m. Mass.

Sacred Heart Church, Alvord - On Dec. 11 at 4:30 p.m., the last rosary of the series of 40 days of rosaries that have been hosted in various homes within the Trinity Cluster will be led. It will begin with a procession of the dancers in the street with the rosary at 5 p.m. Snacks to follow.

St. Rose of Lima Church, Denison - The celebration will begin at 6 p.m. on Dec. 11 with a rosary in the parish center. At 6:30 p.m. those gathered will sing and pray followed by a meal at 7 p.m. The singing will continue at 9 p.m., procession to the church at 9:30 p.m. and Mass at 10 p.m. At 11 p.m. there will be a play about Our Lady of Guadalupe back in the parish center. There will be singing from 11:30 p.m. to midnight.

St. Patrick Church, Estherville - On Dec. 10 at noon there will be a parade with Mass at 1 p.m. and a fiesta at 2 p.m. in the Duhigg Center.

Sacred Heart Church, Fort Dodge - There will be a bilingual Mass on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. with a procession before Mass.

St. Mary Church, Hawarden - On Dec. 11, the last devotion in a series of 46 will be completed on Avenue L, the street the church is located on. From that house the icon of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be carried to St. Mary Church with dancers from the Trinity cluster at 10 a.m. Once at the church, Mananitas will be sung followed by a bilingual Mass. The Anglo community will be guests of the Latin community for a fiesta with food and music after Mass in the parish hall. Los Tiosintesin a Guatemalan group from the Sioux City area will perform the music.

St. Mary Church, Rock Valley - At 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 12, there will be a procession of the Danzeras beginning at both ends of 14th Street by St. Mary's Church. Dressed in native costume, parishioners from Trinity Cluster will dance and process to the rhythm of drums. A portrait of Our Lady will exchange hands to be brought into church for Mass. A Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m. From Rock Valley, at 6:30 p.m. the dancers procession will continue down Main Street in Hull to the community center. At 7 p.m. the Trinity Cluster Native Dance Groups will be dancing in the gym of the Hull Community Center. A catered meal by La Fiesta Restaurant will be served at 8 p.m. All are welcome to join in an authentic Mexican meal. Tickets are $6.50 (Call the church office (712) 476-2060 to reserve tickets. (Limited sales only on the day.)) At 9 p.m. there will be a program to retell the story of the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Tepayac, Mexico.

Christ the King Church, Sioux Center - At 6 a.m. on Dec. 12, there will be Mananitas, where parishioners gather for an early morning greeting of music and song to Our Lady. Food and hot beverages to follow.

St. Patrick Church, Sheldon - There will be a Mass at 11 a.m. on Dec. 11 followed by a fiesta.

Sacred Heart Church, Spencer -On Dec. 9, there will be a first reconciliation and first Communion Mass for the Hispanic students who are not in second grade. Reconciliation will be at 5 p.m. followed by a Spanish Mass at 6 p.m. Their Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration will be tied in with this Mass.

St. Mary Church, Storm Lake - A nine day novena will begin on Dec. 3 each evening from 7 to 11 p.m. The novena will conclude at 5 a.m. on Dec. 11. There will be a Mass at noon followed by a fiesta in the gym until 4 p.m.
