DENISON - St. Rose of Lima Parish in Denison will hold a public auction on Nov. 20. Due to having a new church building, the auction will sell items from the old church building.

The auction will be held in the old church beginning at noon.

Father Edward Murray, pastor at St. Rose of Lima, noted that the items Larger image available auctioned will be those that will not be used in the new church.

"There are things we aren't going to use anymore," said Father Murray. "We have turned the heat off in the old church, so there are things that will get destroyed if we don't sell them. We don't have any use for them anymore so that is why we are having the auction."

There will be several items auctioned including 28 stained and colored glass windows, solid oak pews (36 long, 19 medium and four short), five gold ceiling lights, two risers, four ceiling fans, drapes, Wurlitzer organ and many other items from the church.

Other items, however, will be used in the new church.

"We won't sell the altar, the candles sticks or any of those kinds of things, but just some of the things that are there," said Father Murray.

Denison Livestock, local auctioneers, will take care of the auction. Father Murray pointed out that they are parishioners.

All items purchased will need to be removed from the church within 30 days. The purchasers will be responsible for loading and removal of their own purchases.

Anyone who is interested in purchasing items from the church is encouraged to attend.

"I am sure that there are probably some things that have some sentiment to people who are either former parishioners or people who have some connection with St. Rose and would like to have some kind of memorabilia," said Father Murray. "This would be a chance to do that."

According to Father Murray, the proceeds from the auction will probably be used when the old church is eventually torn down.

The new church building will be dedicated once there is a new bishop appointed to the Diocese of Sioux City. The first Mass in the new church was held on Aug. 28 using the altar from the old church.
