Eight diocesan students awarded Mary Catherine Hagedorn TrustMay 19, 2005LAKE VIEW - This spring eight more graduating seniors from the Catholic high schools in the Diocese of Sioux City were awarded scholarships from the Mary Catherine Hagedorn Trust based in Lake View. Throughout many academic years, this trust has generated over $550,000 for scholarships. Since 1979, 294 students have benefited as scholarship winners. Named after a Catholic farming woman, Mary Catherine Hagedorn, the trust was founded in accordance with her last will and testament through the sale of farmland in Sac County. Since then, annual reports of all transactions of the trust have been made to the State of Iowa for review and approval through the Sac County Court House. Current trustees are Colin McCullough of McCullough Law Firm in Sac City and Lake view and newly appointed trustee William Vonnahme, bank officer of Carroll County State Bank, Carroll. According to McCullough and Vonnahme, the trust has not only perpetuated the name of Mary Catherine Hagedorn, but has also underscored the importance of Catholic high schools and the further education of their graduates.
