Matt Greteman of Carroll has been chosen as the new chair of the Catholic School Foundation in the Diocese of Sioux City and will take over at the spring meeting Greteman on April 28.

The Catholic School Foundation is an organization of representatives from across the diocese who work in support of Catholic schools. The organizations major event of the year is the Bishop's Dinner for Catholic Education.

Greteman is a parishioner at St. Lawrence in Carroll. He attended Holy Spirit Grade School and Kuemper High School. He received a bachelor of arts in accounting from the University of Northern Iowa.

He is a non-practicing, licensed CPA from the state of Nebraska. He worked at a large accounting firm until 1992 when he moved back to his hometown of Carroll.

Currently, Greteman works at Greteman Kraus Insurance and Real Estate. It is a family business with two of his first cousins and his brother. Greteman Kraus has been in business since 1950.

"I am grateful that Matt Greteman has graciously agreed to serve as the new chairman of the Catholic School Foundation," said Jim Wharton, director of stewardship and planned giving for the Diocese of Sioux City. "I thank Leigh Sherman for her wonderful leadership of the Catholic School Foundation and welcome Matt Greteman to assume this important role."

The Catholic School Foundation works to promote the well-being of our Catholic schools throughout the Diocese of Sioux City.

"Matt's passion for Catholic schools is evidenced by his involvement and commitment to Kuemper in Carroll," said Wharton.

According to Greteman, Catholic schools bring "not only the book learning but also the moral issues into play with providing an opportunity to educate the students in a Christ-centered environment."

He is married to Peggy and has four children Kristen, a junior at Kuemper; Peter, a freshman at Kuemper; Nathan, a sixth grader at Kuemper middle school; and Leah, a third grader at Kuemper Grade School.

Greteman has been the head tennis coach at Kuemper for 13 years. He noted that he coaches as a gift back to the school. He is also involved in other activities at the school.

"I am excited," said Greteman. "I think there are a number of things that we need to do to enhance the ability of the Catholic schools to compete effectively with other schools that are out there and deliver the mission that we want to parishioners in the community."
