Schools participate in many Catholic Schools Week activitiesJanuary 27, 2005 Seton Grade School/Bishop Garrigan High School, Algona Jan. 31 will be Community Appreciation Day with all system Mass at 1:30 p.m. at St. Cecelia Church followed by an assembly for mayoral visit. The grade school students will start preparations for the door decorating contest. Student Appreciation Day will be Feb. 1 for grade school and high school with a gift for the students and black and gold day. There will be a science wing open house for the high school students. Staff Appreciation Day will be Feb. 3 with a staff breakfast at 7:15 a.m. at Bishop Garrigan. The Seton Education Fair will be held starting at 6 p.m. Feb. 4 will be School Tradition Day with chamber coffee at Seton. The grade school will have a Seton birthday party as well as enjoy a jeans day and club's choice fun centers. Spalding Catholic Schools - Alton and Hospers Jan. 31 is Community Service Day. The K-2 will make preschool Happy Catholic School Week that get mailed out to area preschoolers and grades 3-6 are collecting items to send to the military personnel. Staff Appreciation Day is Feb. 1 with duty free lunches and lunch out for staff. Feb. 2 is the All School Winter Picnic for Spalding families in the high school gym followed by Mass. Student Appreciation Day will be Feb. 3 with the K-6 having a game day. Feb. 4 will be Spirit Day when students come in dressed in black and gold (school colors) and wear Spalding sports shirts. Spalding Catholic School, Granville The 7-12 activities for Catholic Schools Week will begin on Jan. 31 with Community Appreciation Day with rolls and coffee for community members in school cafeteria after 8 a.m. parish Mass. Feb. 1 is Staff Appreciation and the School Board has organized duty free lunches for K-12 staff. The Granville 7-12 teachers will be going to a restaurant in town. Family Appreciation is Feb. 2 with a noon K-12 picnic in the high school gym and K-12 Mass in St. Joseph's Church. Feb. 4 will be Spirit Day and the National Honor Society Induction will be at 2:30 p.m. St. Johns, Bancroft On Jan. 31 students will participate in a Purple and Gold Day. Feb. 2 is slated for bad hair and ugly tie day. On Feb. 3 there will be an all school Mass where money that was collected for tsunami relief will be presented. The week will conclude with a jean day on Feb. 4. Students will be bowling and having a pizza party to wrap up the week. Sacred Heart School, Boone At the weekend Masses Sacred Heart School families will do ministries and alumni will talk. Sacred Heart School Choir will sing at 10 a.m. Mass. Some of the activities for the week include a faith in every student with community dress in school colors day on Jan. 31. Feb. 1 will be faith in every student with clergy and religious dress-up day along with an all school Mass and tsunami collection begins. Faith in every student with the nation day will be on Feb. 3 when students will dress in red, white and blue. Kuemper Catholic School, Carroll - On Jan. 26th, St. Angela Feast Day, K-5 will celebrate with a special Mass. All St. Angela's alumni are invited to attend and following Mass a reception and a tour of the St. Angela building will be held. On Jan. 31, an all school Mass will begin Catholic Schools Week at Holy Spirit Church at 8:30 a.m. All four centers join together to celebrate and pray for Catholic schools. After Mass each center will receive donuts and juice. Feb. 2 will be 100th day at Kuemper Catholic Schools when each center will celebrate with a red and gold day and class rooms will celebrate the 100th day of the school year different activities. To end Catholic Schools Week, the Kuemper Carnival will be held on Feb. 6 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the high school. Each grade or club takes part in the carnival by hosting a game, raffle or food. Danbury Catholic, Danbury On Jan. 29, there will be a kick-off for Catholic Schools Week spaghetti supper at 5 p.m. in the cafeteria. Catholic School Teacher Appreciation Day will be held on Jan. 31 with a teacher's special luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Sister Kathy Knipper will speak to the students about vocations and faith at 2:15 p.m. in the cafeteria. Feb. 1 will be Catholic School Family Appreciation Day when families are invited to have lunch with their children. Appreciation cards for parents sending their children to Danbury Catholic will be made during the day in the classrooms and sent home with children. Catholic School Student Appreciation Day on Feb. 4 will begin with an 8:30 a.m. Mass put on by the whole school. At 12:30 p.m. students will leave for bowling in Ida Grove and return for dismissal at 3 p.m. During the week, each class will be able to pick the day they want their favorite dessert made for lunch. St. Rose of Lima School, Denison - Jan. 31 will be Faith Worldwide day. People around the world have been reaching out to help the Tsunami victims. St. Rose students will join in their efforts by holding a bake sale at school. The money raised will be donated to this effort. Faith Family day will be held on Feb. 1 and students will enjoy a picnic lunch with their families from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the parish center. Families may pack a lunch from home, grab lunch to go from an area restaurant, or R.S.V.P. for pizza to be delivered from Godfather's. Feb. 3 will be Faith with Friends day and students from Zion school will join St. Rose for a fun day of PE games. Emmetsburg Catholic, Emmetsburg - To start off Catholic Schools Week there will be an opening liturgy and open house on Jan. 30 signifying faith with the parish. Also held that day will be a faculty and staff appreciation supper. Feb. 1 will be a day of faith with the community. Students will wear red, white and blue or camoflauge, make quilt squares and remember service men and women by making care packages to send to soldiers overseas. Faith with religious and clergy will be observed on Feb. 3 along with vocation appreciation day. A prayer service for Father Dan will be held and spiritual bouquets will be given to him. On Feb. 4, faith with faculty, staff and volunteers will be celebrated. There will be muffins for moms and funny feet day with students wearing two different shoes, slippers or funny socks. Emmetsburg will host a retreat day on Feb. 2 for Emmetsburg, Pocahontas Catholic and West Bend Sts. Peter and Paul. St. Edmond High School/Middle School/Elementary, Fort Dodge Catholic Schools Week will kick-off with a High School Student Appreciation Day on Jan. 31. The high school students will have an out-of-uniform day and have the option to participate in many events such as downhill skiing, bowling, dodge ball, watch a movie in the auditorium or enjoy the Talent Show scheduled for later that day. The elementary will host a Book Fair and have free time for the students in the gymnasium. Feb. 2 will be a dress up day. An all-system Mass will be held in the high school gymnasium at noon. There will be a system wide early dismissal from school immediately following Mass. A recognition lunch will be served for all system employees after Mass in the commons. A Teacher/Staff Jeans Day and Recognition Lunch will be held on Feb. 4. Teachers and staff will have a jeans day and will hold a brief ceremony to honor all high school, middle school and elementary teachers and staff for their years of service. The system will dismiss early. Gehlen Catholic School, Le Mars The week will begin with an 8:45 a.m. Catholic Schools Week Liturgy and Faculty/Staff blessing in the gym on Jan. 31. This will also be a dress up day for the students. Feb. 2 will be faculty/staff appreciation day and TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More - Parent Association) will provide lunch for faculty/staff. Faculty and staff will be able to wear casual clothes. The 7th annual CSW Family Picnic in both gyms will be held on Feb. 3 with entertainment on the stage. Feb. 4 will be student appreciation day with students having a free jeans day, a blessing in the gym and afternoon activities for kindergarten through twelfth grade. St. Mary's, Humboldt Jan. 26 will be Teacher Appreciation Day with a special Lunch served by parent volunteers. "Teacher's are the heart of our school" is the theme. Jan. 31 through Feb. 4 there will be a door contest. Each classroom will have a mock T-shirt to decorate to put on their door using the I and T in Faith as their theme. Each day will have a theme. Monday will be hat day. Tuesday will be silly sock day. Wednesday will be Blue and White Day/Student Appreciation. They will do activities with their church buddies and play BINGO together. Thursday will be dress up day for Mass and with a stress on the Beatitudes in teachings. Volunteers of the school will be honored with donuts and coffee after Mass. Friday will be favorite T-shirt day. Pocahontas Catholic, Pocahontas Jan. 31 will be Teacher Appreciation Day with a teachers luncheon in the prayer room. Student Appreciation Day will be held on Feb. 1 with the Carroll Kuemper Youth Band performing. Emmetsburg Catholic and West Bend Sts. Peter and Paul students will travel to Pocahontas to enjoy in the activities. Parents and public are invited to attend. The afternoon will be spent going to the Rialto Theater to see Fat Albert. Feb. 3 will be Vocation Appreciation Day with Father Kollasch and Sister Marge speaking to the students. Family Appreciation Day on Feb. 4 will be celebrated by handing out laminated book marks, decorated by the students, to parishioners and parents. There will also be a yummy sale for families an students. St. Mary's Grade and High School, Remsen Feb. 1 will be Staff Appreciation Day when members of the Christian Leadership Team will prepare and serve the entire high school staff during the noon hour. This includes all of those employees who normally would be involved in the school lunch program. Arrangements have been made so they will be able to enjoy a special meal. The all school picnic will be held on Feb. 2. Parents bring their child's favorite lunch to the high school gym to share an old fashioned picnic with them. This gives the parents a chance to spend time with their kids during the day that they ordinarily would not. Feb. 3 will be Heritage of Faith Day. The high school students will go on a field trip to Sioux City where they will visit historical sites, tour churches and stop at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home for a visit. This is a chance for the students to experience other faiths and to also understand their faith better as they tour the different church facilities. St. Patrick School, Sheldon Catholic Schools Week will begin with opening liturgies at St. Patrick's in Sheldon on Jan. 29 in the evening and students from St. Mary's in Ashton will celebrate at 8:30 a.m. Mass on Jan. 30. On Feb. 1, the school will honor community leaders from both towns. These people will be invited to a tour of the school followed by lunch with the students. Feb. 3 the students will receive a certificate of merit from their teacher as well as an afternoon treat. Classes will decide on a certain color to be worn that day. The week will end with the closing liturgy on Feb. 4 with students from various grades proclaiming the readings. Classroom bulletin boards will proclaim that fact that at St. Patrick's they believe in God, in each other and in their Cahtolic school. Symbols of each belief will decorate the display. The hall bulletin board drawn by eighth grader Christine Cain features a mountain scene and the message - Faith - a mountainous gift leading us to God. Catholic Schools of Sioux City Bishop Heelan High School, Sioux City Bishop Heelan High School students will be reflecting on the four pillars of the Heelan mission statement each day with special activities. The students will also have the opportunity to send a special message every day by wearing "Value Stickers." On Jan. 31, the value will be centered on the idea of what student's value about their education at Heelan. Each homeroom will be responsible for creating a poster to be hung throughout the building for Catholic Schools Week. The sticker theme will be "What we value about our family." Feb. 2 will feature an all school Mass and focus on faith. The sticker theme will deal with "What we value about our faith." Students and faculty will celebrate Heelan on Feb. 4. Students will be able to wear blue and gold attire. A special assembly will be held for the Heelan Olympics. The day will be topped off with a noon dismissal. Holy Cross, Sioux City Jan. 31 will celebrate Faith in Every Student: With Community with students giving their parents a "Thank you" for Catholic Education that they made the week before. This will also be "Bring Your Parents to School Day" and parents are invited to the classrooms with coffee, juice and cookies provided. Feb. 2 will be Faith in Every Student: With the Nation with a K-8 Mass at St. Michael Parish from 10 to 11 a.m. SOS will provide lunch for teachers and staff at lunch time. Students will have the opportunity to get an ice cream sundae at lunch. This will be the Holy Cross Rollerama Skating night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Faith in Every Student: With Religious will be on Feb. 3 with BINGO in the gym for grades three through five. This will be a freeJean Day for K-8, Faculty & Staff. There will be early dismissal for both centers with a teacher in-service at 2 p.m. Feb.4 will be Faith in Every Student: With Staff and Volunteers. There will be BINGO in the gym at the St. Michael Center and early dismissal for both centers. There will be a CSSC Faculty/Staff Luncheon at 1 p.m. at St. Michael Parish Center. Sacred Heart School, Sioux City - On Jan. 30, students will read thank you's at the Masses at the different parishes. Faith in Community day will be Jan. 31 with a normal uniform day and family picnic/open house. Lunch will be in the cafeteria, gym, stage and gathering area and no school lunch provided for the day. Feb. 2 will be Faith in the Nation day and a red, white and blues dress-up day with a student Mass at 8:45 a.m. Faith in Parents - hats off to parents will be Feb. 3 and students will wear hats for the day with normal uniform. The eighth grade verses faculty volleyball game will take place from 8:45 to 10 a.m. Feb. 4 will be Faith in Faculty/Staff. There will be 12:15 p.m. dismissal and teachers' lunch at St. Mike's. Mater Dei, Sioux City Catholic Schools Week will begin with Faith in Every Student: With Community Day on Jan. 31. The eighth grade students will attend a retreat at Bishop Heelan. The kindergarten through fifth grade students will play BINGO @ 1:45 p.m. Feb. 1 will be Faith in Every Student: With Students Day, "Swish Into Catholic Schools," and students may wear "swish"/sweat pants. It will be PE Activity Day and there will be ice cream treats served at Nativity at 10 a.m. and Immaculate Conception at 1:45 p.m. Faith in Every Student: With our Religious and Clergy, "Hats Off to Catholic Schools," will be held Feb. 2 with an all school liturgy at 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Donuts and juice will be served following Mass in the IC gym. Following Mass, Students will be able to wear their favorite hat. Students will write thank you's to Father Jerry, Father Steve, Msgr. Augustine, Sister Julie and Sister Joellen. Sacred Heart School, Spencer Catholic Schools Week will begin with a parish event on Jan. 30 with an all school Mass. Ministries will be provided by students. There will be coffee and donuts after Mass in the gym and a book fair in the library. Community day will be Jan. 31 and cookie trays will be delivered to community helpers. Community helpers will speak to students about their faith. There will be an assembly at 2:30 p.m. in the gym. Feb. 2 will be national day and a living rosary for world peace will be held in the gym. Students will also write to servicemen/women and design a sticker for them. Volunteer day on Feb. 3 will be celebrated with an indoor picnic in the gym and on stage. Parents are asked to bring lunches as well as a blanket to sit on. Parent volunteers will be recognized. St. Mary School, Storm Lake - The week will begin with a meal in the parish center on Jan. 30 along with the winter carnival in the parish center and book fair in the library. Jan. 31 will be faith in our volunteers day with a volunteer appreciation assembly in the gym at 8:30 a.m. along with presentation of the Volunteer of the Year Award and reception for volunteers. National Catholic Schools Recognition Day is Feb. 2 and will be celebrated with a parent-led school Mass with brunch to follow in the parish center. Faith in the Students day will be held on Feb. 3 as student appreciation day with free jeans day and homeroom treats for students. SS. Peter & Paul Catholic School, West Bend - Jan. 31 will be Faith in Every Student: With Community Day. Students will have Crazy Day/Clash Day, make quilt squares and remember service men and women by making care packages for soldiers overseas. Faith in Every Student: With Nation Day will be Feb. 2 along with spirit day when students will wear Sts. Peter and Paul shirts. Students will also participate in a retreat with Emmetsburg Catholic and Pocahontas Catholic. Feb. 4 will be Faith in Every Student: With Faculty, Staff and Volunteers, National Teacher Appreciation Day. There will be a closing liturgy, ice skating, spiritual bouquet for Father Tiedeman, gifts of faith, Teacher/Student Appreciation Day and Hawaiian Day. |
