IDA GROVE - Sacred Heart Parish is welcoming Christian music singer Terry
Talbot to the ECC Auditorium (301 Morehead Street) in Ida Grove on Jan. 23 for a
night of music, praise and entertainment.
Talbot was the founder of the band Mason Proffit. The group recorded five
albums and opened for many well-known groups such as John
Denver and The Doobie
Brothers. After the breakup of Mason Proffit, both Talbot and his brother, the
well-known John Michael Talbot, were lead to an incredibly powerful Christian
music ministry with many award-winning albums and songs.
"I know Terry through the Catholic Association of Musicians," said
Father David Hemann, pastor of Sacred Heart in Ida Grove and Our Lady of Good
Counsel in Holstein. "I have seen him around and at a few concerts. Joe
Hand has been up here several times to do concerts. Joe has worked very closely
with Terry Talbot and Mason Proffit. Joe told Terry if he wants to go to a nice
place to do a good concert to come to Ida Grove."
Talbot had called Father David and asked if he could come play in Ida Grove
for his parishioners and guests. Father David said yes and they both worked to
make the concert happen.
"I told him that he could expect anywhere from 100 to 500 people,"
Father David said. "This will be a celebration of Jesus and a celebration
of life."
The concert will start at 7 p.m. and will last until 9 p.m. Father Hemann
said those who attend could expect "uniquely powerful and expressive vocals
to his amazing, finger-picking Irish American Folk guitar."
The ecumenical concert is open for anyone wishing to attend. A free-will
offering will be taken. There will be CDs and tapes available for purchase.
"This will be a great time of fellowship," Father David said.
"His songs have a very pointed message of following Jesus and loving one
another. With great guitar skills and a tremendous voice, Terry can communicate
the Gospel to people. This is a wonderful ecumenical opportunity for
people."
