Our Lady of Guadalupe celebrations

Schedule for the celebrations of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the Diocese of Sioux City are as follows:

Cathedral of the Epiphany, Sioux City - A nine day novena will begin on Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe. On Dec. 12, Mananitas will begin at 5 a.m. with a Mass at 6 a.m. and a play at 7 a.m. Another Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. and a play at 12 noon. A reception will follow each Mass.

St. Rose of Lima Church, Denison - The celebration will begin with a nine-day novena Dec. 3-11. A Mass is planned at 10 p.m. on Dec. 11 followed by the rosary, Mananitas and a gathering in the parish center for a meal together. On Dec. 12, young people of the parish will carry the Guadalupano Torch, the light of faith, 10 miles from St. Ann Church in Vail to St. Rose of Lima in Denison in time for Mass at 6 p.m. There will also be a presentation on the vision of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

St. Patrick Church, Estherville - Mananitas will be held at 5 a.m. on Dec. 11; Parade at 12 noon followed by Mass at 1 p.m.

Sacred Heart Church, Fort Dodge - Mass at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 11 with Mananitas followed by a fiesta.

St. Mary Church, Hawarden - Bilingual Mass at 11 a.m. on Dec. 12 followed by Mexican food and fiesta in the parish center. The new Guadalupe shrine in the church will be dedicated during the Mass along with the blessing of the icon.

St. Mary Church, Rock Valley - A procession will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 12 with dancers led by the portrait of Our Lady of Guadalupe. At 2 p.m. there will be a continuation of Mananitas, started at Christ the King in Sioux Center, with drums, trumpet and clarinet. At 3 p.m. a procession and Mass will be held in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe. From 4 to 5 p.m. there will be a drums, trumpet and clarinet in dedication to Our Lady. There will be a fiesta from 5 to 8 p.m. with a potluck, dance and more in the basement at St. Mary Church.

Christ the King, Sioux Center - Mananitas and rosary will be held at 6 a.m. on Dec. 12.

St. Patrick Church, Sheldon - A procession will begin outside, weather permitting, at 11 a.m. followed by Mass and a fiesta in the church basement on Dec. 19.

St. Mary Church, Storm Lake - A nine day novena will begin Dec. 4 with a rosary being prayed each evening until Dec. 12. On Dec. 12, the novena will conclude at 5 a.m. with a serenade to the Virgin Mary. There will be a band and songs for the Virgin Mary followed by breakfast of Mexican food at the church. Then there will be a noon Mass with the Knights of Columbus performing and a group will enter dancing dressed up like Indians. After Mass those in attendance will gather for a meal.

St. James Church, Le Mars - A service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 12.

Sacred Heart, Spencer - Mass at 4 p.m. on Dec. 11 in Spanish will be celebrated followed by a special meal in the meeting room at the church.
