New administrators to lead two diocesan Catholic schools

August 19, 2004

New administrators will lead two of the Catholic schools in the Diocese of Sioux City this year. Virginia Huss will serve as the principal at St. Patrick's Grade School in Sheldon and Jim Wesselmann will serve as the K-8 principal at St. Catherine's-St. Mary's School in Oyens and Remsen.

A graduate of St. Joseph's High School in Ashton, Huss earned a Huss bachelor's degree at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City. She took administrative classes at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.

"It is a privilege to serve as the principal at St. Patrick's School in Sheldon," said Huss. "The parents, parishioners and the staff are very dedicated to Catholic education."

For several years Huss has taught the third grade at St. Patrick's. Prior to this position she taught the first and second grade at St. Joseph's School in Ashton. She also served as the head teacher in Ashton.

"The goal at St. Patrick's School for the coming year is to have the school, church and home working together to spread God's eternal love," said Huss.

Wesselmann is a graduate of St. John's High School in Bancroft. He Wesselmann attended Briar Cliff College to earn a bachelor's degree in history and later earned a master's in educational administration from Iowa State University.

"I am looking forward - with great anticipation - in working with the teachers, staff and community of Remsen," he said.

After college, Wesselmann worked for the Corwith-Wesley/LuVerne School District until 1994 and then joined the staff at Okoboji Community Schools. For both school systems he served as a social studies teacher and coach. He also coached bases for one year at St. John's.

"My hope and goal for the upcoming year is to be an effective administrator," he said.
