Hagedorn scholarships announced

May 27, 2004

LAKE VIEW - This spring, eight more students from the Catholic high schools around the Diocese of Sioux City are receiving scholarships from the Mary Catherine Hagedorn Trust in Lake View.

Throughout many academic years, the trust fund has generated over $539,000 for scholarship funds. Since 1979, 286 students have benefited as scholarship winners.

Named after a Catholic farming woman, Mary Catherine Hagedorn, the trust was founded in accordance with her last will and testament through the sale of farmland in Sac County.

Since then, annual reports of all transactions of the trust have been made to the state of Iowa for review and approval through the Sac County Court house.

This year, each scholarship winner will receive an award of $1,300 in four installments during their freshman and sophomore years of college.
