The Diocesan Annual Appeal has collected a total of $1,244,346 as of Dec. 3.
That total is a result of 13,994 donors that have
given through DAA.
"We are still receiving pledges and gifts," said Steve Elbert,
director of development for the Diocese of Sioux City. "We are hopeful that
we get to the $1.3 million mark. That was our goal this year to get to that mark
and approach $1.4 million. Hopefully, as the year goes along people are able to
pledge so that we can achieve that mark."
Pledges and donations to the appeal coming in during the early part of the
year is not unusual, so the final tally for the year should increase.
"Our people and parishes have always been there for the Diocesan Annual
Appeal," said Elbert. "I think they realize the importance of
supporting both parish and diocesan ministries on an annual basis. The DAA is
put in place to really carry the ball every year for the programs and ministries
we provide for the betterment of all of our people."
The money raised through DAA is important to different programs whether it be
Catholic Charities, adult and family ministry, multi-cultural ministries,
tribunal, permanent diaconate, the religious education media center, information
services and general program underwriting.
Not only are the diocesan level programs and ministry needs supported, all
diocesan Catholic schools and every parish benefit from funds raised through the
Diocesan Annual Appeal.
"I think it was a challenging year with everything that has happened,
but at the same time I think our faith foundation is evident," said Elbert.
"Our people are still there and still contributing time, talent and
treasure."
On the basis of 100 percent goal achievement, each parish will receive the
following return: a two-school parish receives 74 percent of the money and the
diocesan share is 26 percent; a one-school parish receives 34 percent of the
money and the diocesan share is 66 percent; and parishes with no schools receive
5 percent while the diocese receives 95 percent of the money.
Parishes receive 100 percent of funds raised above their goal.
"I really want to thank the DAA volunteers out in the parishes as well
as the staff and the pastors," said Elbert. "It's something they know
we have to do every year and every year they come to the table. We are very
appreciative of that because it benefits so many people."
Nearly 40 percent of the parishioners took part in DAA with an average pledge
of $88.92.
"We wish to thank all of the people who have pledged and
contributed," said Elbert. "I would like to encourage all those that
have participated in the past, but who have not yet pledged or contributed to do
so that we may address our needs this year."
