As in past years, the money will benefit all of the schools within the diocese. A portion of the money raised will go directly to the schools and the other portion will be allocated to the Catholic School Foundation.

"This year the money will benefit our schools directly for whatever their greatest need," said Steve Elbert, director of development. "The remainder of the proceeds will go to them (schools) in the form of grants."

The money will be used much in the same way as it for last year - for schools to use in their areas of greatest need.

In the past, the proceeds have been used for technology and teachers salaries. In recent years, the focus has been on grants and what is needed most in the schools.

The money will be allocated to the schools through individual ticket sales - those who purchase tickets were asked to note which school they would like a portion of the ticket sale to go to. In addition to the ticket sales, money will also be allocated on a per-pupil basis.

Elbert noted that the increase in the money raised by the fundraiser was due to generous sponsors and attendance.

"We are very grateful for our sponsors and contributors for their continued support," Elbert said. "We also had a good number in attendance. There were nearly 500 people in attendance."

Those who attended the fundraiser were entertained by the keynote speaker Rocky Bleier, who was a former football player for Notre Dame and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Attendees also enjoyed a gourmet dinner and the bishop presented awards to educators and supporters of Catholic education. There was also a social hour prior to the dinner.

"I think that the Bishop's Dinner has been a great event for us over the years," Elbert said. "It is a great opportunity for people who love and support our Catholic schools to get together and celebrate Catholic education. It is a great way to raise money for certain things that we have needed over the years."

Elbert extend his appreciation to all those who helped with the Bishop's Dinner, especially Dr. Ken and Debra McCalla who chaired the event and committee that hosted the dinner.

"We really appreciate all they did to help make this event memorable for the people of our diocese. It is a way to come together and have fun and to do something product so we can have something tangible to give back to our schools," Elbert said.
