Le Mars resident wins quilt raffle

May 29, 2003

Bishop Daniel N. DiNardo selected the winner of the Centennial Quilt Raffle at a chancery gathering on May 23, his birthday.

Patricia Hodgson of Le Mars is the lucky winner of the quilt. Her ticket was one of 748 raffle tickets that were purchased. Entries were received from 108 communities and four states.

According to Jim Wharton, director of stewardship and planned giving for the diocese, the raffle raised $3,740 for the Centennial Campaign for Excellence.

The quilt was a gift to the centennial campaign from Carolyn Richardson of Rockwell City.

"Carolyn has given all of us a tremendous example of Christian stewardship," said Wharton. "Her decision to make a quilt for the campaign personifies her love of the faith. We are grateful for her kindness."

The money will be used to support the four initiatives of the Centennial Campaign for Excellence: Catholic schools, Catholic Charities, multi-cultural ministries and adult formation.
