WEST BEND - Parishioners from throughout the Diocese of Sioux City are welcome to enjoy an inspirational day of Christian music at the 4th Annual Gospel Songfest. It will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., June 8, on the grounds of the Grotto of Redemption in West Bend.

According to Diane Streit, associate director of the grotto, several groups will offer listeners a variety of Christian entertainment.

"Angela Naeve, our first performer, will be performing contemporary Christian and she also does children's Christian music," noted Streit.

Nuns on the Run will perform at 5 p.m.

"They do comedy as well as Christian music," she explained.

The Redemptive Singers, a women's choir, will entertain with Gospel and Christian music.

"Our final act is the Cornbelt Barbershop Chorus, a group of men, that features harmonizing Christian music," said Streit.

In past years, she noted, there has been very good response to the songfest. Many people inquire when the next one will be held so they can mark their calendars.

The Gospel songfest in previous years has drawn several hundred people. The number attending appears to have grown every year.

Tours will offered every hour throughout the day beginning at 8 a.m. The grotto's gift shop will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the restaurant will serve from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those who attend may opt to eat at a special BBQ for $5, running 5 to 7 p.m. Proceeds of the BBQ will help the Grotto of the Redemption purchase promotional brochures. Blue Bunny is donating ice cream treats for the event. Pie from the grotto's restaurant will also be featured.

There is no cost to attend the songfest, however, the grotto will accept a free will offering.

"Bring your family, friends and a lawn chair and join us for a joyful day of song in the peaceful setting of the grotto," said Streit. "The grotto seems like such an ideal place to come and worship - sit back, relax and enjoy the message."

The event will be held at the north campground, which is north of the pond.
