Learning a different culture
Two Japanese students, Kayo Tamura (right) and Yuka Ogushi, from Northwestern College in Orange City, shared a little bit of their culture on Jan. 30 with the students at the St. Catherine Center in Oyens. With the assistance of first-grade teacher Barbara Shostak (far left), Kayo and Yuka helped the students learn how to eat with chopsticks. In addition, the students were taught the art of origami by making a paper cup from which they drank water. They also learned how to write their names in Japanese, enjoyed some candy from Japan and heard some of the language from Kayo and Yuka, as well as from a Japanese cartoon.
