Stevens to chair Sexual
Abuse Task Force
Bishop Daniel N. DiNardo has appointed Don Stevens chairman of the Sexual Abuse Task Force for the Diocese of Sioux City. Volunteers from throughout the diocese will make up the task force that will help formulate policies and initiatives to meet the provisions of new child protection charter adopted by the U.S. bishops in Dallas. "This task force is without question one of the most important of modern times. I am honored Bishop DiNardo would offer this responsibility to me. I believe it is a matter of urgency to establish policies, educational activities and programs with the focus of a spiritual component to meet the needs of the Diocese of Sioux City," said Stevens. Stevens is the general manager of human resources for the Bekins Group in Sioux City. Don went to the Bekins Group after a successful 20-year career with the U. S. Postal Service, including postmaster of the Sioux City office. He graduated from Heelan High School and holds a B.A. degree from St. Mary's University in Winona, Minn. He served with the U. S. Army in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970 and is the recipient of two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts. He has been active in numerous church and community affairs including Bishop Heelan High School, Mater Dei School Board, Knights of Columbus and the American Red Cross. Stevens and his wife Mary are parents of four children. "This task force can have an impact on healing the wounds and for those who participate will clearly define what is expected of us an our unique contribution to the life of the church," said Stevens. |
