Centennial Mass will reflect flavor of parishes

The committee planning the Mass and celebration of the Diocese of Sioux City's 100th anniversary on June 16 intentionally was composed primarily of persons outside the chancery to insure that the celebration reflected a flavor of the parishes.

According to committee member Kay Morrissey, director of the Office of Faith Formation, parishes of Sioux City are represented by Tom and Noreen O'Shea Benzoni (St. Michael), Peg DeSchepper (Nativity), Kristine Delfs (Blessed Sacrament), Traci Bornholtz (Sacred Heart), Kathy Hansen (Immaculate Conception), Sue Hrasky (Nativity), Mary Hanno (St. Michael), Sister Joellen Price PBVM (Immaculate Conception), and DeAnn Jensen (St. Joseph).

In addition, Kris Mueller (Cathedral of the Epiphany), Patti Thompson and Patty Considine (St. Michael) are assisting with the environment. Jean Johnson of Hartley St. Joseph has also been involved.

Father Merlin Schrad, chair of the Presbyteral Council, and Father Bob Schimmer, a member of the Presbyteral Council, represented the clergy on the committee.

Diocesan staff members include Michael Willis, director of the Office of Worship and Sister Maria de Jesus Ybarra, director of Hispanic Ministry. Michelle Stevenson, Linda Miller and Jeanne Piechota of the diocesan support staff were also actively involved.

Tickets are still are still available for the 3 p.m. Mass at the Convention Center.

The committee also needs an accurate count of persons planning to stay for lunch. Cost for lunch is $6 per person.

For families coming from a distance, a beautiful riverfront park is located a few blocks from the Convention Center. Historic Fourth Street, with its unique shops, is adjacent to the venue. And Trinity Heights is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
