Father Thomas Munn dies at 75

Father Thomas Munn, 75, of Carroll died April 15 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.

Mass of the Christian Burial was held April 18 at Holy Father Thomas Munn Spirit Church in Carroll with Bishop Daniel N. DiNardo presiding and priests of the Diocese of Sioux City concelebrating. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus from Carroll provided an honor guard.

A memorial Mass was held at 9 a.m. April 19 at St. John's Church in Ogden, celebrated by Msgr. James Lafferty and Father Paul Kelly. He was buried in St. John's Cemetery, Ogden.

Father Munn was born Dec. 30, 1926 in Fort Dodge, the son of Mark and Mary (Molloy) Munn. He graduated from Corpus Christi High School in Fort Dodge. He attended Loras College in Dubuque, 1944-1947 and St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, Md., 1947-1951.

Bishop Joseph M. Mueller ordained him to the priesthood for the diocese on May 19, 1951 at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City.

While Father Munn retired in 1999, he was currently involved with chaplain duties at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll. Prior to retirement, his last assignment was as pastor of the Ogden parish and Christ the King, Dayton, from 1989 to 1999.

Other parish assignments included: assistant at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Ashton, 1951 to 1953; temporary assignment at St. Michael Church in Whittemore, 1953; assistant chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City, 1953 to 1957; temporary assignment at Boone, 1957; chaplain at Woodward State Hospital and School, 1957 to 1965; assistant at St. Cecelia in Algona, 1965; assistant at St. Rose of Lima in Denison, 1965 to 1966; pastor at St. Mary Church in Oto and St. Philip Church in Hornick, 1966 to 1973; pastor at St. Louis Church in Royal and St. Mary Church in Everly, 1973 to 1985 and pastor at St. Bernard Church in Breda, 1985 to 1989.

He has no immediate survivors.
