invited to take bike tour
Parishioners of the Diocese of Sioux City are invited to join veteran Iowa bicyclists Chuck and Carla Offenburger and 300 others June 9-15 on a week-long cruise around the diocese. This Pilgrimage on Wheels bike ride in celebration of the diocese's 100th anniversary. The Offenburgers say it will be a byclist's dream with church suppers, church lunches and church snacks along the way. Overnight stops will include Storm Lake, Mapleton, Carroll, Fort Dodge, West Bend, Milford, Granville and a finish at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City. In Storm Lake, the ride will kickoff with a dance. At Briar Cliff to conclude the ride, there will be an outdoor concert. Camping will be provided at Catholic churches and schools including the grounds of the famous Grotto of the Redemption in West Bend. Bicyclists will have the chance to see Granville Spalding High School Spartans, state champions in baseball, play a home game. Organizers of the ride say the pilgrimage will provide a week of fun, fellowship and faith - with plenty of food, music and history. This is an alcohol-free, family-friendly event. It is a full-supported ride with "sag" service, maps and commemorative T-shirts. Helmets are required. Cost of the event is $75 for the week, $15 per day with special week-long rates for families and chaperoned youth groups. For more information, check out the diocesan Web site at www.scdiocese.org.
