DCCW retreat a success
By Wynn Touney
DCCW
"How is it that you, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of Samaria?" Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, 'Give me a drink," you would have asked him and he would have given you living water." - John 4: 9, 10.
"If you knew the gift of God," this scripture verse in the conclusion of Pope John Paul II apostolic letter on the Dignity and Vocation of Women, was truly a meaningful ending of the Aug. 6-8 retreat as directed by Gina Bauer of St. Paul, MN. All of the women attending were inspired by Gina's ability to help them learn more about their faith, the importance of their prayer life and their importance in their family, their church, their community and the world.
As Gina directed the focus, the many participants more fully realized that "The church gives thanks for all the manifestations of the feminine "genius" ...and she gives thanks for all the fruits of feminine holiness." In like manner, the entire Council thanks all who dedicated their time and talent in preparation and presentation of the event as well as to all who participated to grow in their faith to discover their "supreme vocation." Everyone shared in their expression of thanksgiving for "the gift of God."
Thank you, Bishop Nickless, Father Tigges, Father Brad Pelzel, Father Dominic, Father Hood and Deacon Streit for your presence and celebrating the closing Mass. We were grateful and inspired to be present for seminarian Patrick Behm's installation as an acolyte, the last formal ministry before ordination to the diaconate. As Bishop Nickless requested, we will remember to pray for your special intentions, Patrick!
It is at this time of our Council's year that we want to sincerely thank again the wonderful officers and commissioners of 2008 - 2010. President Michele Leiting has presented the gavel with prayers to Ellen Streit of West Bend. Vice-Pres. Zelma Sholly will mentor the new V.P., Mary Ann Ruether of LeMars. Julie Storr has passed the secretary's records to Bernie Kenyon of Mallard. Robin Corzilius has presented the treasurer's book to Myrna Herbers of Milford.
