Christmas Communion

Love doesn’t die, people do. So that when all that’s left of me is love, give me away.

Christmas Eve Communion

By Eileen Spinelli

Having given up

Our small remnants

Of pain.

We gather in the deep

And unfamiliar light

Of love.

It fills

Our open hands

As we move to

Brave longings

For peace.

We carry it home

Through the quiet snow

And trust anew

The patterns

And promises

Of this holy night.

Lord, help us to surrender our remnants of pain, O one born to Eternal Life … for your birth and healing touch have left me with a feeling that each day is a Christmas Eve Communion … which I shall share with others.
