After the success of the Spirit of Home Fundraiser that was initiated by the Holy Spirit Foundation last year, the event will be held again this spring to benefit Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.
The Second Annual Spirit of Home will be held at 6 p.m. on May 11 at the Sioux City Country Club. Ann and Dan Myers will serve as the 2018 honorary chair couple.
According to Ranee Ehrich, director of marketing and development at Holy Spirit, it will be a casual, social evening where people can enjoy food, drinks and live music, all while supporting Holy Spirit.
“Last year we raised over $75,000 – over double our goal,” she said. “Our goal this year is to raise over $80,000.”
Social hour will begin at 6 p.m. featuring entertainment by the Heelan Jazz Band. A brief program will be presented at 7 p.m., including the story of the Myers’ who have had several relatives at Holy Spirit. Along with refreshments, heavy hors d’oeuvres and homemade desserts will be featured. The main entertainment of the evening will feature the Bathtub Dogs, an all-male a cappella ensemble from the University of Nebraska.
Ehrich pointed out that funds through the Spirit of Home help support Holy Spirit Retirement Home – the residents, family members and staff members.
“This year, proceeds of the event will likely support renovation of our shower room on the first floor into a whirlpool room, add some outdoor retractable awnings and update our cable television that includes a live feed of daily Mass into the residents’ rooms,” said Ehrich, who noted that Mass is celebrated in the Holy Spirit Chapel everyday at 10:30 a.m. “Some residents may not feel well one day or they are sick and can’t leave their room. but they want to go to Mass.”
While that is a service they were able to offer in the past, she noted with changes in cable providers they presently are not able to do so. It is an amenity they hope to offer again soon to residents.
Ehrich pointed out the Holy Spirit Foundation was established to support the retirement home. In addition to the Spirit of Home event, other ways of giving to the foundation are through memorials, planned giving gifts and the annual appeal.
“Last year we had a full house – it was a sold-out event and everyone had a really great time,” Ehrich. “It’s a nice evening out and it happens to be Mother’s Day weekend. You can treat your mom as her Mother’s Day gift.”
Tickets cost $50 and can be purchased online at holyspiritretirementhome.com. Seating is limited; RSVPs are requested by May 1. Sponsorships are also available online.
