ALABAMA – Have you ever watched EWTN or listened to EWTN programming on Catholic radio and wondered where they are broadcast? Now you have the chance to experience the EWTN Global Catholic Network in person.
Carolyn Von Tersch, a parishioner at St. Rose of Lima in Denison, is planning a pilgrimage June 4-9 to Alabama. The pilgrimage will also include a visit to the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament Monastery of Poor Clare Nuns of Perpetual Adoration.
“Both EWTN Studios and the Monastery Shrine are both amazing places to experience – to see what can come about because of someone listening to God’s call and boldly perusing it,” said Von Tersch. “You are invited to experience a hidden wonder of our Catholic faith. This journey will truly touch the depth of your soul. God’s presence is undeniable.”
She is hoping 40 to 45 will sign up to go on the pilgrimage. Von Tersch reminded that with most pilgrimages “there is walking from the different areas, so someone with extreme limitations should consider this fact.”
The pilgrimage will begin on June 4 with departure at 7 a.m. from the St. Rose of Lima Church parking lot in Denison. Pilgrims will spend an overnight in the St. Louis area before traveling to Birmingham/Irondale, Ala. on June 5.
June 6 will be spent at the EWTN studio and include Mass, tour, rosary, Divine Office with the friars, meet the friars and be a part of the studio audience of the program “EWTN Live” with Father Mitch Pacwa.
“‘EWTN Live’ with Father Mitch Pacwa is a show in which he interviews different guests about a variety of subjects of interest to the church,” said Von Tersch.
Pilgrims will spend the day on June 7 at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament and Monastery of the Poor Clare Nuns. The day will include prayer with the nuns, a tour of the shrine and John Paul II Eucharistic Center, a healing service and free time to walk the grounds or shop for religious articles.
Travel back to Iowa will begin on June 8 with an overnight in St. Louis before arriving in Denison on June 9.
Von Tersch encouraged those considering the pilgrimage to be open “to the graces that God has for us. Explore the many holy places that the U.S. has.”
“We don’t have to leave the country to find many places that will fill our souls with God’s love and presence,” she said. “In your Lenten journey, ask God if he is calling you to experience this wonder of our faith. In taking a pilgrimage like this, there is a hidden grace that you can’t explain until you experience the trip.”
Cost of the pilgrimage is $650. A $100 deposit is required to reserve a spot (payable to Von Tersch) and due by April 15. Final payment is due by May 1, so Von Tersch may finalize the hotel room count and send in the rooming list.
The cost includes bus travel, breakfast, dinner, five nights lodging in double occupancy rooms and applicable fees.
