POCAHONTAS – At Magnificat, women have the chance “to socialize, pray together, talk about their faith together and hear how God is working in someone’s life,” said Julie Storr, coordinator of Magnificat Northwest Iowa Chapter – Mary Undoer of Knots.

The next Magnificat gathering will be held at 10 a.m. on June 10 at Resurrection of Our Lord Parish, Pocahontas.

Denise Bossert of St. Louis will be the speaker for the gathering. She entered the Catholic Church in 2005 and worked as a syndicated columnist for diocesan newspapers from 2005-2015. She is the author of the book Gifts of the Visitation and has traveled to the Holy Land numerous times. She speaks to parishes on topics including conversion, evangelization, the Blessed Mother and faith travel.

“We first heard about Denise from Lisa Hendey, who was in our diocese for the 2016 women’s conference,” said Storr. “Denise has roots in Iowa, and we knew that she had written a book on the gifts of the Visitation, which ties in with the ministry of Magnificat. After we did a study on her book during Advent in Pocahontas, we knew she’d be a great speaker for our (Magnificat) chapter.”

Learn more about the ministry by going to Magnificat-Ministry.net or check them out on Facebook. Other board members of the Magnificat in the diocese include Deb Troshynski as the assistant coordinator and historian, and Michelle Leiting is the secretary/treasurer.

The ministry has been up and running for more than a year in the diocese and the chapter meets quarterly for a meal and speaker.

“It’s a time for women, no matter where they are in their faith life, to learn, pray, sing and more importantly, get to know other women in our diocese who are just like them,” said Storr. “After the meal, there will be a time of prayer for the needs of all present and an opportunity to hear one woman’s experience of the transforming love of Christ in her own life.”

Priests and religious sisters are always welcome free of charge, however an RSVP is appreciated to Leiting.

Tickets are $10 per person and on sale through June 3. No tickets will be sold at the door. Please RSVP to Michele Leiting, 19546 Aspen Ave., Westside, IA 51467. Her phone number is (712) 663-4584.

Bossert’s talk will be recorded. More information about how to access that recording will be available at the event.
