Priests celebrate years of service to diocese

Jubilee Mass

By KATIE LEFEBVRE
Globe staff reporter

On the occasion of the priest jubilee Mass, Bishop Walker Nickless reminded the priests of the “gift we are to each other. As one presbyterate, gathered, formed and called by the good shepherd, may we rejoice in the unique gifts and talents that the Lord has given to each of us.”

“I encourage you to look upon the other as a gift and commit once again to pray for and support one another,” he said. “God has great work for all of us to do in the Diocese of Sioux City. We thank him for what he has accomplished in the past, for the generous contributions of our jubilarians and all those who have gone before us. We look forward to what still is to come and what the future holds.”

Jubilarians

Ten priests of the Diocese of Sioux City celebrated milestone jubilees this year. They were honored at a Mass on May 6 at St. Mary Church in Storm Lake.

WILLEY – Pouring sacred chrism on each of its four corners and rubbing the holy oil across the surface, Bishop Walker Nickless anointed the new altar at St. Mary Church.

“Bless this altar built in the house of the church that it may ever be reserved for the sacrifice of Christ, and stand forever as the Lord ’s table, where people will find nourishment and strength,” the bishop said during the Prayer of Dedication.
